China Joins the Fight Against ISIS

China Joining the Fight Against ISIS

by Stephen Lendman

A Russian, Chinese, Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian alliance against ISIS perhaps may encourage other countries to join it - a possibility likely terrifying Obama officials and their war-mongering partners.

On September 26, IDF-connected DEBKAfile (DF) said “the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning-CV-16 docked at the Syrian port of Tartus, accompanied by a guided missile cruiser.”

“Its arrival has upended the entire strategic situation surrounding the Syrian conflict, adding a new global dimension to Moscow and Tehran’s military support for Assad.”

The extent of China’s involvement remains unknown. DF calls it “highly detrimental (to) Israel’s strategic and military position” - code language for wanting nothing deterring its alliance with Washington from removing Assad, replacing him with a pro-Western puppet, in sinc with Washington’s regional objectives.

DF said its “military sources have evidence that (Beijing is) digging in for a prolonged stay in Syria.” Whether true remains to be seen. It claims China intends sending warplanes, anti-submarine helicopters, early warning helicopters and “at least 1,000 marines.”

The Lebanese-based Al-Masdar Al-‘Arabi (The Arab Source) news site reported “Chinese military advisors” heading for Syria. An unnamed Syrian army source was quoted saying “the Chinese will be arriving in the coming weeks.” They’ll join with their Russian counterparts, involved in training Syrian military personnel in weapons supplied.

RT International said initial Chinese military personnel “will reportedly be followed by troops.” It comes after Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria established a Baghdad-based a joint information center to battle ISIS.

In September 2014, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Jafari said his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, offered to help fight its scourge by launching airstrikes separate from US operations.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Wang told Jafari that Beijing offered intelligence help and personnel training. He didn’t comment on whether direct involvement in combat would follow.

“China has been fighting terrorism and has been providing support and assistance to Iraq, including the Kurdish region, in our own way, and will continue to do so within the best of our capabilities,” Hong explained.

Beijing is Iraq’s largest oil industry investor. China National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) faces huge losses if Islamic State fighters control its operations. It abandoned its Syrian oil fields earlier. Iraq’s reserves are some of the world’s largest - a key reason for Beijing now apparently getting involved, to protect its regional interests.

Al Jazeera America Struggles to Survive

Al Jazeera America Struggles to Survive

by Stephen Lendman

In December 2012, Al Jazeera News channel (JNC) bought Al Gore’s Current TV for a reported $500 million. It acquired a potential audience reach of 40 million households.

It’s headquartered in New York with 12 nationwide news bureaus in major US cities. It combines global news with programming tailored for American viewers.

JNC is owned and operated by Qatar’s monarchy - like other Gulf states, a major human rights abuser, including forced labor, migrant workers horrifically exploited.

JNC lost credibility long ago, abandoning professionalism, objectivity and hard truths. It features state-controlled propaganda - like US major media only foreign owned.

Al Jazeera America (AJAM) operates by the same standard as its Doha-based parent. In August 2013, it debuted - still struggling to attract viewers.

Qatar is oil and gas rich, able to subside AJAM - for how long remains to be seen. It wants US viewers. Without enough, it may cut its losses and shut down.

In May, the New York Times reported its newsroom in turmoil. Its CEO Ehab Al Shihabi said his goal was “to win the mind and the heart of the American audience.” Ratings and profit margin are “critical.”

Two years later - no profits, poor ratings. Its audience size is a meager 30,000 viewers nightly. Top executives left. Employees cite grievances, reflecting dysfunctional management. Some reported a culture of fear.

Former senior vice president Marcy McGinnis said the newsroom is in “disarray behind the scenes” - a view shared by current and former staff.

On September 28, the Financial Times picked up the story. Last spring, Shihabi was sacked, Al Anstey replaced him. Employees challenged him, accusing him of “putting the cart before the horse,” adding:

“You first have to figure out how to put on television with workflows and a system that makes sense. There are so many structural flaws in the organisation that it does not matter what the vision is.”

Anstey told the FT change “takes time. We’re beginning to see some of the changes.” AJAM nearly imploded from a $15 million discrimination lawsuit,  three lost female executives, and its founding CEO replaced.

“The teams here lived through some very rocky times. It was an aggressive timeline to launch,” said Anstey. “There was quite a fast pace, I think, set by my predecessor, and that created certain challenges and certain disquiets which did resonate before my arrival.”

He admitted he has “burning fires” to extinguish, including lawsuits from former staff charging sexism and bias. He faces reports that his parent company intends cutting around 1,000 jobs.

The FT said AJAM is expected to be spared - for how long is the question. Qatar’s deep pockets aren’t as full with low energy prices. It may be less tolerant about sustaining losses with less US reach than expected.

Stiff competition has its viewership near-bottom rated among cable channels. It’s having a hard time gaining US viewer trust.

Maybe if it adopted RT International’s approach to TV news, it could match its success. Its global reach exceeds 700 million people in over 100 countries.

It’s the leading news operation on You Tube with over 2.5 billion views and nearly three million subscribers - astonishing success since its December 2005 launch.

It’s gaining audience share in America by reporting hard truths, dispelling US misinformation and Big Lies, repeated by US media scoundrels, losing viewers (and readers) for failing to deliver what people want - the truth!

Daily Israeli Violence

Daily Israeli Violence

by Stephen Lendman

It never ends. Israel is more a warrior state than legitimate one - at war with its Arab population, ruthlessly persecuting occupied Palestinians, besieging 1.8 million Gazans, suffocating them, attacking its neighbors preemptively, inventing pretexts to justify aggression.

Half a dozen or more previous times it launched aggressive air strikes on Syrian targets, complicit with Obama’s war, again overnight Sunday - on the phony pretext of an errant rocket allegedly landing in Israel harming no one, likely either fired by US-supported takfiri terrorists or an invented IDF reason to strike at least three Syrian military targets on its side of occupied Golan.

It came a day after France launched airstrikes on Syrian infrastructure (not ISIS as it falsely claimed), joining Obama’s imperial war along with Britain, Canada and Australia.

Press TV said Syrian forces “seized huge quantities of Israeli-made weapons and advanced military equipment from foreign-backed” takfiri terrorists.

Netanyahu’s regime treats its wounded fighters in bordering field hospitals. Ahead of his Monday UN General Assembly address, Putin slammed Washington’s policy of arming and training terrorists fighting Assad.

He deserves international support in his battle to eliminate these elements, Putin stressed. Russia will continue providing Syria with weapons, training and humanitarian aid, fulfilling its contractual obligations.

Putin urges diplomatic conflict resolution - along with world leaders uniting to defeat ISIS and other takfiri terrorists. Washington and Israel want endless war. Both nations partner in each other’s high crimes.

Israel’s war on Al-Aqsa continues. On Monday, its heavily armed security forces again stormed the compound, attacking Palestinian worshipers violently.

Maan News reported rubber-coated steel bullets fired indiscriminately, able to cause serious injuries. Snipers were deployed on the southern mosque’s rooftop.

“Israeli forces in riot gear” took over the main courtyards. Peaceful worshipers were forcibly removed. “(H)ammer drills and oxy fuel welding (and cutting) tools…removed several (Al Aqsa) windows.”

Zionist zealots with enormous influence want a new Jewish Temple replacing Al-Aqsa - a prescription for all-out holy war. The Temple Mount & Land of Israel Faithful Movement is an extremist, Arab-hating group - committed to “(l)iberating the Temple Mount from Arab (Islamic) occupation.”

“The Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa mosque were placed on this Jewish or biblical holy site as a specific sign of Islamic conquest and domination.”

“The Temple Mount can never be consecrated to the Name of G‑d without removing these pagan shrines. It has been suggested that they be removed, transferred to, and rebuilt at Mecca.”

Former deputy Knesset speaker Moshe Feiglin earlier said “I’m not asking for equality at the Temple Mount. There is no equality. It’s ours and ours alone.” Likeminded extremist Israeli lunatics share this view - including senior officials in Netanyahu’s ruling coalition and previous ones.

In May 2014, hardline MK Miri Regev introduced legislation permitting Jews to pray inside the compound - what’s been strictly forbidden for half a century, what Palestinians won’t tolerate, nor perhaps the entire Muslim world.

Israel generously funds organizations dedicated to replacing Al Aqsa with a new Jewish Temple. Netanyahu claiming no intention to change status quo arrangements likely conceals his real objective.

Temple Mount movement extremists are now mainstream, supported by numerous rabbis, encouraging what demands denunciation.

Israel violates Palestinian religious rights throughout the Occupied Territories, denying them access to East Jerusalem holy sites, waging war on Al-Aqsa with perhaps another major one on Gaza in mind.

All Eyes on Putin

All Eyes on Putin

by Stephen Lendman

He’ll command world attention perhaps like never before when he addresses over 150 other heads of state in New York, attending the General Assembly’s 70th session.

He’ll speak Monday morning at around 11:30AM Eastern Daylight Time - about an hour after Obama’s scheduled 10:30AM address.

Tass said his stay will last about 10 hours. He’ll arrive and leave on the same day. He’ll “present…his vision of the modern situation in the world and ways to resolve the most acute problems.”

RT International said his address will focus on Syria, Ukraine, sanctions, and global economic conditions, “among other pressing issues.” Sputnik News quoted former UK ambassador to Russia Tony Brenton saying Western policy “does seem to be moving the way Putin wants” - a body blow to Washington’s strategy.

He plans one-on-one meetings with several other world leaders - notably Obama, scheduled for about an hour, their first face-to-face detailed discussion in over two years - against the backdrop of failed US efforts to marginalize, weaken and isolate Russia, a reckless, provocative strategy risking direct confrontation, a superpower clash jeopardizing world peace.

New York Times editors bashed Putin irresponsibly ahead of his UN address and meeting with Obama - ignoring his overwhelming domestic public support, the only world leader offering sensible ways to end conflicts in Syria and Ukraine, polar opposite his Western counterparts, aggressors responsible for endless wars.

Times editors lied claiming Putin “openly defied international law and Western sanctions by his annexation of Ukraine and support of rebels in eastern Ukraine.”

Fact: “(A)nnexation of Ukraine?” A rhetorical slip or willful exaggeration perhaps. Russia annexed ZERO Ukrainian territory.

Putin recognizes the sovereignty of all nations, including Ukraine. Crimeans near unanimously voted to join Russia on their own - an international law guaranteed right. Self-determination is inviolable.

So-called “rebels” are courageous freedom fighters. They reject illegitimate fascist rule. They want real democracy. They deserve universal support.

Times editors: Putin’s “backing of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad is one reason the Syrian civil war dragged on so long and has created so appalling a humanitarian crisis.”

Fact: Putin responsibly supports Syrian sovereignty under Assad. There’s nothing “civil” about ongoing war.

It’s Obama’s war. He launched it, using imported Islamic State and other takfiri terrorists to do his dirty work. He bears full responsibility for devastating carnage and human suffering throughout the region - and the severest refugee crisis since WW II.

The Washington Post failed to explain Obama’s disastrous Middle East policy in contrast to Putin’s sensible solution gaining traction - the key reason why State Department aides arranged a meeting between the two leaders.

WaPo quoted an unnamed senior Western diplomat saying Putin “is not the one who needs a deal. He has time on his side. It is us who needs a deal more. Whatever happens in Syria, we know that he will probably be part of it.”

Fact: No probability about it. His role is central. His Syrian policy is the only way to combat Islamic State and other takfiri terrorism. As human refugee floods arrive in Europe daily, its leaders perhaps are more receptive to his ideas - polar opposite Washington’s failed policy, an agenda of endless war accomplishing nothing but human suffering.

The Wall Street Journal, a notorious Putin basher, reluctantly admitted he “already made a dramatic return to the world stage.”

He’s the main attraction in New York this week, his stature justifiably earned, Obama consigned to second fiddle status.

Their highly touted meeting pits a geopolitical giant against arguably the worst president in US history - an unindicted war criminal, a disaster by any standard at home and abroad, a reckless leader risking global war.

Ahead of Putin’s General Assembly address, he told CBS’ 60 Minutes “at no time in the past, now or in the future has or will Russia take any part in actions aimed at overthrowing the legitimate government” of any nation.

He urged all countries “to respect the sovereignty of other states, including Ukraine. Respecting the sovereignty means preventing coups, unconstitutional actions and illegitimate overthrowing of the legitimate government” - an undisguised indictment of longstanding US policy.

He justifiably called it “absolutely unacceptable,” a reckless agenda assuring endless conflicts. He “knows for sure” about US tactics in Ukraine - the coup it orchestrated to oust Viktor Yanukovych, installing an illegitimate fascist regime to replace him.

He knows “who had meetings and worked with” Ukrainians involved, “when and where” they took place.

“We know the ways the assistance was provided. We know how much they paid them. We know which territories and countries hosted training and how it was done. We know who the instructors were. We know everything,” Putin explained.

The nonexistent “Russian threat” is used as a pretext for deploying US forces in Eastern Europe and holding large-scale provocative military exercises near its borders.

America’s empire of bases extends globally, a major threat to world peace. Russian military forces are almost entirely internally located - strictly for defense in contrast to America’s endless wars on humanity.

The Financial Times said Putin’s strategy “put the US on the back foot.” He’ll “steal (the) show” in New York. He’s there when Washington’s policy “is in tatters.” He’s the best hope for world peace, America the chief obstacle.

Republican Race Tightens: Does It Matter?

Republican Race Tightens: Does it Matter?

by Stephen Lendman

Governors Rick Perry and Scott Walker were early dropouts. Expect others before the February 1 Iowa caucus and primary season begins, New Hampshire first eight days after Iowa - heading toward March 1 super-Tuesday with 13 states up for grabs.

Does it matter? Not under money controlled one-party rule, candidates from each wing virtual cardboard cutouts of each other, in lockstep on all issues mattering most - same-old, same-old: pro-war, pro-business, anti-populist.

Don’t be fooled by demagogic rhetoric. Candidate Obama promised hope and change, peace, not war, prosperity lifting all boats, affordable universal healthcare with a public option, respect for labor rights, closing Guantanamo, ending torture, real immigration reform, prosecuting Bush administration war criminals, Palestinian sovereignty free from occupation, respect for rule of law principles and much more.

Dirty business as usual continues, including endless wars, corporate favoritism, social injustice and harsh crackdowns on nonbelievers. Instead of improving lives of ordinary Americans, they’re worse than ever - poverty and unemployment at Great Depression levels, unprecedented wealth disparity, social needs increasingly ignored, human misery a growth industry.

Think duopoly candidates will change things? Think again. No matter who succeeds Obama, business as usual will triumph like always. Democracy is pure fantasy. Voters have no say whatever.

Money power rules. Rogue governance proves it - threatening world peace, security and stability, inflicting more harm on more people at home and abroad than any previous regime in world history.

As of late September, Hillary Clinton maintains a sizable lead over Bernie Sanders (despite plunging support) - 43 - 27%, unannounced potential candidate Joe Biden at nearly 20%.

Their rhetoric differs. Their agendas are cookie-cutter similar, matching Republican meanness, why America and Israel are perhaps the world’s most hated countries.

The US agenda threatens world peace, Democrats more belligerent than Republicans. Lincoln gave us devastating Civil War, Wilson WW I, Roosevelt WW II, Bill Clinton more war than Reagan/Bush I; Bush II more than Clinton, Obama more than W, whoever succeeds him perhaps WW III unless he beats them to it.

New Republican polls show Trump waning - 21 v. 34% in July. Retired retired neurosurgeon/Muslim hater Ben Carson nearly tied at 20%, up from 10% in July.

Tea party favorite neocon Senator Marco Rubio (R. FL) and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina tied in 3rd place, each with 11%. Jeb Bush has distant single digit support.

Previous articles discussed Clinton, Sanders, Trump and Carson. Super-hawk Marco Rubio may launch WW III in his first 100 days.

His “Rubio Doctrine” prioritizes “American strength” - more military spending, belligerence and endless wars, perhaps Obama on steroids.

He supports Cuban isolation, rescinding the Iran nuclear deal, maintaining tough sanctions, imposing new ones, escalated war in Syria, more military aid for Ukrainian fascists, and perhaps direct confrontation with Russia.

He and Hillary Clinton especially represent America’s lunatic fringe - perma-hawks, most likely to launch WW III.

Carly Fiorina is a failed corporate CEO. His dismal record got her sacked. Hewlett-Packard’s stock lost half its value while most other blue-chips rose sharply.

More than 30,000 H-P employees lost jobs on her watch. It included what some market watchers called “the dumbest deal of the decade.” A risky mega-merger with Compaq failed.

She blamed the dot.com bust, sexism and board member ineffectiveness for her own shortcomings. She made a once Silicon Valley pioneer into a shadow of its former self.

Do Americans want a former CEO as president, or current one? Do they want anyone prioritizing profits over popular interests running the country?

Do they really think they have a choice in deciding? It’s preordained well before polls open on November 8, 2016. Business as usual always wins.

Israel's War on Al-Aqsa

Israel’s War on Al-Aqsa

by Stephen Lendman

Muslim’s call Islam’s third holiest site the Noble Sanctuary/Al-Haram al-Sharif. Over 35 acres enclose fountains, gardens, buildings and domes.

At one end is the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In the center is the Dome of the Rock. The entire area is considered a mosque - sacred ground for Muslims, freely desecrated by Zionist zealots, storming the compound unaccountably, protected by heavily armed, rampaging Israeli security forces.

Attacking Muslim worshipers, firing noxious tear gas, rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades, again on Sunday, following previous days of violence and chaos, willfully causing damage, injuring numerous Palestinians threatening no one.

Praying at Al-Aqsa is hazardous. Israel made it a near-free-fire zone. Not a word from Washington or other Western capitals denouncing its war on holy ground - the ruthless policy of a racist state.

On Sunday, Maan News reported Israeli forces “stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound” again, this time on “the last day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday” - attacking peaceful Palestinian worshipers viciously, terrorizing them like many times before, forcing them to defend themselves with their bare hands against heavily armed soldiers and police.

A police statement lied, claiming security forces were attacked with “stones and fireworks.” They responded using “riot dispersal means.” Victimized Palestinians respond after being assaulted, not before.

Heavily guarded extremist settlers entered the compound provocatively, performing prayers - where they don’t belong on the pretext of celebrating the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), a seven-day period beginning Sunday, not a significant holy period.

Many Jews ignore it entirely. Some know little or nothing about it. Racist Israeli policy used it provocatively - at the same time terrorizing Muslim worshipers over the important Eid al-Adha period, preventing them from praying in peace.

Murabitoun Al-Aqsa worshiper movement head Yousef Mukhaimar said “Netanyahu’s strategy is fulfilling his promises to his right-wing and extremist supporters to eventually demolish Al-Aqsa and build their alleged temple in its place.”

Arab Knesset leader Ayman Odeh said to “counter Israeli plots to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews,” Israeli Arab citizens intend coming to the compound en masse.

“Now there are crowds in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and these crowds will grow larger tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in particular.”

(The goal is) to uproot the idea of dividing Al-Aqsa and its courtyards” - a longtime objective of Zionist zealots, wanting a new Jewish temple replacing Al-Aqsa, a prescription for holy war.

The racist Temple Institute has detailed plans drawn up for a new Jewish temple. It wants control over sacred Muslim ground.

Longstanding policy permits Jewish prayer only at the adjacent Western Wall. Israeli forces regularly storm Al-Aqsa, attacking Muslim worshipers, restricting or prohibiting entry for others, letting extremist Jews pray where they don’t belong - desecrating Islam’s third holiest site in the process.

France Bombs Syria

France Bombs Syria

by Stephen Lendman

France is part of the problem, not the solution, in Syria. It supported Obama’s war from inception. It partners in all US imperial wars, a key member of NATO’s killing machine, smashing one nation after another.

On Saturday, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius lied, blaming Assad for four-and-a-half years of war, ignoring Obama’s full responsibility and French complicity, backing his aggression on another independent country, using ISIS and other takfiri terrorists to do his dirty work.

“There has been a lot of comment in the last few days on the role of Assad and whether he can or should be a stabilizing element in Syria,” said Fabius. He lied calling him “the main person guilty of the current chaos. If we were to say to the Syrians that the future of Syria lies in Assad, then we'll expose ourselves to failure.”

“We have to redouble our efforts” to oust him - ignoring his overwhelming popularity along with core international law, prohibiting interfering in the internal affairs of other nations for any reason, except in self-defense if attacked.

Syria doesn’t threaten its neighbors. Assad wants peace, not war. He responsibly defends his country and people against foreign invaders - disgracefully bashed for doing his job.

On Sunday, France partnered with America, Britain, Canada, and Australia in bombing Syria. The objective: support ISIS terrorists. Ravage the country into submission.

Continued war assures more harm to long-suffering civilians than already, exacerbating, not diminishing human floods fleeing for safe havens.

A Hollande government statement lied, saying: “Our country thus confirms its resolute commitment to fight against the terrorist threat represented by Daesh (the Islamic State). We will strike each time that our national security is at stake.”

France is using the refugee crisis as an excuse to continue terrorizing Syrians, forcing more to flee for their lives, using the tired old national security canard, a phony reason to pursue its regional imperial interests along with America.

The way to insure regional and European security is by ending wars, not continuing them endlessly, creating an endless cycle of violence, chaos and instability, the opposite of good policy - except for hegemons wanting things their own way unchallenged, no matter the cost in human lives and suffering.

Putin’s agenda is polar opposite, criticizing Western “double standards and selfishness,” urging world leaders to unite against ISIS, go all-out to eliminate its scourge.

Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria established Baghdad-based a joint information center. According to an unnamed military-diplomatic source, the initiative’s “main goal…will be gathering, processing and analyzing current information about the situation in the Middle East - primarily for fighting IS.”

An official from each country will head the center on a three-month rotating basis. Its objective is coordinating plans to defeat IS, waging legitimate war on terrorism, polar opposite US policy.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said “Moscow is acting within the framework of international law, respecting the sovereignty of our county…”

“We do not hide anything under the table. We regard Russia as our friend and strategic ally which is honest in its actions.”

Its commitment to defeating IS and restoring regional peace and stability runs counter to Washington’s imperial agenda.

Expect no change in its permanent war policy. Ignore meaningless rhetoric claiming a commitment for regional peace.

Vladimir Putin: Peace Champion

Vladimir Putin: Peace Champion

by Stephen Lendman

Differences between Putin and Obama are stark. Russia’s president deplores war and instability - goes all-out for resolving conflicts diplomatically, enjoys overwhelming public support, far exceeding approval ever achieved by a US leader.

Obama disgraces the office he holds. He’s a con man, a demagogue, a serial liar, a front for wealth and power exclusively, ruling by deception, waging endless wars of aggression fraudulently dressed up as humanitarian intervention.

On Monday, September 28, both leaders will address the UN General Assembly. Obama’s speeches make painful listening - beginning-to-end demagogic rubbish, willful misinformation, Big Lies on issues mattering most. Expect this year’s address to be no different from previous ones.

Putin is entirely different. He’s believable, candid, straightforward. He says what he means and means what he says.

In an interview to be aired on CBS’ 60 Minutes Sunday night, he discussed Syria among other topics, saying:

“It’s my deep belief that any actions to the contrary in order to destroy (its) legitimate government will create a situation which you can witness now in the other countries of the region or in other regions, for instance in Libya, where all the state institutions are disintegrated. We see a similar situation in Iraq.”

“There is no other solution to the Syrian crisis than strengthening the effective government structures and rendering them help in fighting terrorism. But at the same time, urging them to engage in positive dialogue with the rational opposition and conduct reform.”

Syrians alone should “decide who  should govern their country and how,” never other nations. Sovereign independence is inviolable, a notion Washington categorically rejects.

Putin’s UN address will be his first since 2005. It’s highly awaited, attracting the most advance attention. The Financial Times said “(r)arely has a world leader managed to surround an address to the UN General Assembly with as much intrigue.”

“…Putin plans a grand diplomatic demarche linked to an offer of Russian help, even leadership, in fighting” ISIS.

He’s a key “player on the global stage,” a leader “Washington cannot ignore.” Compared to his “wrongfooting counterparts,” his Syrian agenda “show(ed) him again to be an agile tactician.”

He’s committed to keep Syria from becoming another Libya, Iraq or Afghanistan - dysfunctional, violent, chaotic, ungovernable, victimized by endless war and instability.

He’s the key player in the fight against ISIS - Obama’s proxy force, serving US imperial interests, polar opposite Putin’s peace and stability agenda along with his proposal for world leaders to unite against its terrorist threat to the region and beyond.

The world awaits his Monday address. Last week on Russia’s Sunday Time television program, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov mentioned some key issues he’ll address, saying:

He’ll discuss “attempts to slow down the objective process of formation of the new multi-polar world order…From here, the problems rise that are on everyone’s lips.”

First, “the fight against terrorism, which must be waged without double standards…It is important not to divide the terrorists into good and bad ones (like the West), not to assume that with some of these bad extremist-minded people, it would be possible to work with for achieving of some specific opportunistic geopolitical goals.”

“(T)he problems of unilateral coercive measures, and not only in respect to the Russian Federation. Nowadays, you know, our Western partners, primarily, under the influence, perhaps, of American mentality, are losing in general the culture of a dialogue and the culture of achieving diplomatic solutions.”

“The Iranian nuclear program was a bright - and even very bright -exception. In most other cases - in conflicts that continue to flare up in the Middle East, in North Africa - they try to resort to measures of military intervention, as was the case in Iraq and Libya, in violation of UN Security Council decisions, or to resort to sanctions.”

“So (Putin will address) this theme and the theme of the fragmentation of the global economic area, since now within the framework of World Trade Organization the negotiations to ensure universal approach to new areas of economic relations between the states got stalled.”

“Also, the technological ties between the states (got sidetracked) - about all this the President will be speaking, and, of course, he will touch upon the specific aspects, such as Syria.”

“We have declared that we will be helping the Syrian leaders, as we help the Iraqi leaders, or the leaders of other countries who are facing the threat of terrorism.”

“And our military-technical cooperation pursues exactly these objectives. Of course, the supplies of arms (from Russia), they have been going on. They are going on (now), and they will continue.”

They’re “accompanied by our specialists that help put the according equipment up, help to train Syrian (military) personnel to handle these weapons, and there are absolutely no mysteries and no secrets” about this.

Moscow has always been very open about explaining it - unlike Washington, covertly arming terrorist groups like ISIS to serve its imperial interests.

Putin will address the refugee crisis, calling it Europe’s problem, not of Russia’s making. He opposes Security Council approval of military action against ships carrying human floods, desperate to reach safe havens, including smuggler operations.

Key is the safety of people in need. European nations are obligated to help. So is America - the key factor behind the crisis, its imperial wars the reason it exists.

Moscow’s position about refugees is clear, Lavrov explained. It fulfills its international law obligations. “All those who fall under the category of refugees, we take in, and we will take into the Russian Federation, sometimes even going beyond the criteria that is applied. I refer to the refugees from Ukraine, there are about million” being helped.

Russia won’t accept Security Council no-fly zone authorization, cover for naked aggression like against Libya.

Regardless of what he says in New York, no matter how sensible and important, expect relentless Putin bashing to continue - Western media a collective mouthpiece for wealth, privilege, imperial power and endless wars.

Putin Was Always Right About Syria

Putin Was Always Right About Syria

by Stephen Lendman

He understands what’s going on and how to resolve things responsibly - polar opposite Obama endless war agenda, blaming his high crimes on Assad.

In September 2013, The New York Times published Putin’s op-ed titled “A Plea for Caution from Russia,” saying:

Ongoing conflict in Syria “prompted (him) to speak directly (at) at a time of insufficient communication between our societies.” Post-WW II, the UN was “established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again.”

Yet it continues. Endless wars rage. UN members never stopped them. Most never tried. Too many partnered in waging them. America and rogue allies deplore peace and stability.

Putin’s agenda is polar opposite. He warned of the threat to world peace when countries like America take the law into their own hands, bypass the Security Council and do what they please, mindless of the consequences.

US-led Western policies “destabilize(d) the Middle East and North Africa.” War in Syria is “fueled by foreign weapons supplied to the opposition,” Putin explained.

Since Obama launched war in March 2011, he urged “peaceful dialogue” to end it - stressing Syrians alone should determine their future, for sure no outside powers.

International law must be respected, said Putin. “The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not.”

“Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression.”

Putin expressed grave concern about America waging endless wars in multiple theaters. Does it serve its longterm interests, he asked? “I doubt it,” he said.

“Millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model of democracy but as relying solely on brute force, cobbling coalitions together under the slogan ‘you’re either with us or against us.’ “

Force is “ineffective and pointless. Afghanistan is reeling.” Libya and Iraq are cauldrons of violence. And now Yemen. America bears full responsibility. Why do US officials “want to repeat (past) mistakes," Putin asked?

He warned about takfiri terrorists in Syria returning home battle-hardened, ready to challenge their home countries.

Responsible leadership demands settling conflicts diplomatically, doing everything possible to end them. Washington goes all-out to undermine efforts countering its imperial agenda.

Expect no constructive change following Putin’s Monday meeting with Obama on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly session - no matter the post-meeting remarks.

Syria’s best chance for conflict resolution is stepped up Russian support - supplying more weapons, intelligence and other help against a regional terrorist threat able to spread elsewhere, with or without Western and/or regional involvement.

Wall Street Journal editors are worried. “Putin is on a Syria roll,” they said. His “strategy is working better than perhaps even he had hoped.” He’s “blowing up Mr. Obama’s Syria and Iraq strategy.”

Weeks earlier, Obama claimed his efforts were “doomed to failure.” His agenda is the only sensible one. He may be winning some Western countries over to his thinking.

Ending war in Syria and other US conflict theaters is the only way to stop human refugee floods fleeing to safe havens, Europe their favored destination, overwhelming the continent.

Journal editors are terrified at the prospect of US allies coming around to believe Putin knows best. If key ones like Germany and France ally with his war on ISIS proposal, it could be a regional game-changer. Hope springs eternal.
